Abstract: 

THREE-DIMENSIONAL STEADY-STATE TURBULENT ROTATING SINGLE-PHASE FLOW WERE SIMULATED IN A ROTATING PACKED BED (RPB) AND WERE VALIDATED USING OVERALL DRY PRESSURE DROP MEASUREMENTS FOR A NOVEL RPB DESIGN. VECTOR PLOTS OF VELOCITY IN THE RPB REPRESENTED THAT CIRCUMFERENTIAL COMPONENTS OF VELOCITY IN THE PACKED BED SECTION AND AXIAL COMPONENTS IN THE HOUSING SECTION WERE MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS OF VELOCITY. BY THE WAY, SIMULATION RESULTS SHOWED THAT PRESSURE DROP INCREASES WITH INCREASING GAS FLOW RATE. ACCORDING TO THE VALUES OF PRESSURE DROP EARNED FROM CFD SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL WORK, AVERAGE RELATIVE ERROR CALCULATED AND A VALUE EQUAL TO 30.42% EARNED. THE MAIN REASON FOR THIS ERROR, DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POROUS PLATE PACKING DESIGNS IN CFD AND EXPERIMENTAL WORK, APPRAISED.

Abstract: 

Mixer- settlers are widely used for solvent extraction process in industry. The aims of this project are simulation of FLUID FLOW and optimizing the operational conditions of settler in solvent extraction process. Designing and meshing of settler geometry is done by Gambit software. Then, in order to simulate the FLUID FLOW, the meshed designed imported to Ansys Fluent software. Simulation results were verified before simulation. Effect of Inlet volumetric on phase separation investigated. The effect of geometry of picket fences was investigated by the presence of cubic, cylindrical picket fences, picket fences with 5 corner cross section and half cylindrical picket fences. A few extra plates of picket fences were located near the entrance of settler. Phase separation in presence of two and three rows of picket fences investigated. Results indicate that by reducing the inlet volumetric rate, increasing the number of rows, putting extra plates of picket fences in front of entrance and decreasing the closed to open surface ratio to 2, separation improves.

Abstract: 

The two-FLUID FLOW is produced by the combined effects of electroosmotic force in a conducting liquid and pressure gradient force in a non-conducting liquid. The Poisson-Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes equations are solved analytically; and the effects of governing parameters are examined. Poiseuille number increases with increasing the parameters involved. In the absence of pressure gradient, the two FLUIDs demonstrate plug-like velocity profiles. The results reveal that the two-FLUID electroosmotic pumping FLOW rate is feasible for a relatively small interface zeta potential; or large wall zeta potential and electrokinetic radius. For particular values of the governing parameters, the FLOW rate approaches a specific value as the electrokinetic radius tends to infinity. A back FLOW (a negative value of the resultant FLOW rate) occurs for sufficiently small values of the wall zeta potential or sufficiently large values of the interface zeta potential (even in the case of pressure-assisted FLOW). Zero-value FLOW rates may also be attained.

Abstract: 

In this study, effects of numerous physical quantities like dissipation, thermal radiation, and induced magnetic field on magnetohydrodynamic Casson FLUID FLOW through a vertical plate is addressed. The non-dimensional multivariable governing equations are solved numerically by by means of Runge-Kutta method along with shooting technique. The behavior of velocity, temperature and induced magnetic fields for different physical aspects is discussed through graphical illustrations. The influence of physical constants like Casson FLUID (β ), Magnetic parameter Μ , Soret number Sc, Prandtl number Pr, Magnetic Prandtl number etc., on induced magnetic field, temperature and velocity is analyzed. Interesting observation of this study is that the effect of velocity distribution obeys the physical nature of well-known Newtonian and all other Non-Newtonian FLUIDs.

Abstract: 

This paper presents the Jeffery Hamel FLOW of a non-Newtonian FLUID namely Casson FLUID. A suitable similaritytransform is applied to reduce governing nonlinear partial differential equations to a much simpler ordinarydifferential equation. The variation of Parameters Method (VPM) is then employed to solve the resulting equation. The same problem is solved numerically by using Runge-Kutta order 4 method. A comparison between bothsolutions is carried out to check the efficiency of VPM. The effects of emerging parameters are demonstrated forboth diverging and converging channels using graphical simulation.
